Meet the Artist behind Sign Savant

Japhy Witte is a traditional sign painter, typographer, muralist, and fine artist based in Seattle, Washington, with over 20 years of experience honing and refining a wide range of stylistic applications for local businesses, both large and small. His unique, hand-drafted approach to design is inspired by centuries of fine craftsmanship and preserved history. Grounded in his opposition to the expanding digital world, he is dedicated to helping his clients achieve an authentic, artisanal, and timeless aesthetic that establishes their business and connects to a larger community narrative.

Mr. Witte believes it is of great importance to observe the nuances, efforts, and craft of previous generations and to create work that connects to those essential measures of quality and value. To that end, he approaches each object or space as a gift to the future—each sign, mural, motif, and decorative flourish is a bridge between the past and the future, a reminder that we are here now, have been here through generations, and our world will continue on.

Sign painting, decorative painting, and murals define cities. Entering the public consciousness and collective memory, public art allows us to place ourselves. It is considered a great honor and duty to contribute tangible, handmade artifacts—both beautiful and durable—to our shared visual environment.
